CRISIS SITUATIONS: The SOCCT is not equipped to respond to crisis situations where there is an active or immediate risk of violence towards oneself or others or in cases where a person is presenting with delusions or hallucinations. In crisis situations, call 911 and notify 69³ÉÈ˵çÓ°Íø security (506-364-2228).

If you're concerned about a student's well-being or safety, please make a referral to SOCCT.

The Student of Concern Case Team (SOCCT) is a multi-disciplinary group of 69³ÉÈ˵çÓ°Íø staff who support the wellbeing of students by assessing identified concerns and/or behaviours and responding appropriately.
 
A referral should be made to the SOCCT when there is a significant but non-emergency concern for a student’s health and wellbeing or to the 69³ÉÈ˵çÓ°Íø Community.

Recognizing signs of distress and providing support

It can be challenging to know if someone is struggling and when to offer support. There are many factors that determine how comfortable we are in reaching out to offer support, such as the relationship we have with the person (faculty, support staff, friend), and our personal experiences.

69³ÉÈ˵çÓ°Íø aims to create a caring campus community where everyone feels supported and where community members look out for each other. In order to support this goal we have put together resources and training to assist increasing knowledge of how to recognize signs of distress, how to provide support and when to reach out for further assistance. Please note that the Student of Concern Case Team will not be active during the Holiday Break. Referral received after Dec. 19 will be reviewed on Monday Jan. 6.

Anyone can make a referral to the SOCCT. Referrals are typically reviewed within 1-2 business days of submission.

The SOCCT works with materials, information, and processes designed through the (NABITA).

Once a referral is made

Referrals are generally first reviewed by the Case Manager who will determine what, if any, steps should be taken. This may include:

  • a reach out to the student
  • collaboration with another professional on the situation
  • bringing the case to the full SOCCT

A person making a referral will be notified that a report has been received. If appropriate, the team will give a brief update to the reporter. Anonymity cannot be guaranteed.

The team typically meets weekly.

The following are core members of the SOCCT. Designates take the place of core members when needed. Ad hoc members are included when deemed necessary.

SOCCT outreach

The SOCCT offers a presentation to the campus community annually about the process and with information on providing support to students. Requests can also be made to present and consult with specific campus groups.
