GERALDINE 鈥淕ERRY鈥 (MCELHINEY) HILCHEY (鈥46)
Submitted by her brother John McElhiney (鈥60) and son David Hilchey

Gerry, age 93, passed away on Nov. 21, 2019 in Truro, NS. Following graduation in secretarial studies in 1946, she remained on campus as secretary to the dean of arts and continued her vocal training with Ethel Peake at the Mt. Allison Conservatory. Upon returning home to Truro, NS, she was employed as a secretary at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College where she met and married her husband, John Hilchey, in 1949. She was predeceased by John and son, Robert, and will now be dearly missed by her brother John, son David, two grandsons, two great grandsons, and extended family. Her last four years were happily spent in Parkland Estates, Truro, where her cheerfulness will also be missed.

Music was always an integral part of her life as were her artistic endeavours in needlepoint and rug hooking, which adorn the homes of the family. For several years she was deputy registrar of deeds for Colchester County. She also enjoyed her many opportunities to travel and sip a glass of wine across North America and Europe. Gerry was active as a volunteer throughout her life, most recently as a member of the hospital auxiliary. Her kindness, optimism, and humour touched everyone in her life.
