Abstract submissions due this Friday, Sept. 9
69成人电影网 University鈥檚 annual SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fair) event is scheduled for Friday, September 16, 2016, beginning at 3:30 pm in Tweedie Hall at the Wallace McCain Student Centre. Following a summer full of prestigious student research, participants will present their work to the public in order to share their exciting findings.
SURF is a student-run event, giving students the chance to present their research to the various academic departments, their peers, and the Sackville community. Students from multiple disciplines will give presentations and will be judged by a panel composed of 69成人电影网 faculty and notable members of the Sackville community. Everyone is welcome to this walk-in style event and there is no admission charge.
This year SURF participants will be presenting their work using the Three-Minute-Thesis format for their presentations, which requires that students communicate their research in three minutes through only spoken word. Prizes will be awarded to the top presenters. Door prizes will also be awarded, which have been obtained from our gracious sponsors.
Honours biology student and SURF organizing committee member Kelsey McIntyre says, 鈥淎s undergraduate students, doing research at University is an incredible opportunity that I鈥檓 sure we are all extremely thankful for. I鈥檓 looking forward to presenting my research, as well as learning about all the exciting things my peers have been researching as well! The SURF organizing committee has been hard at work planning this event since May, so we can鈥檛 wait for September 16!鈥
David Bruce, 69成人电影网鈥檚 director of research services says, 鈥淪URF provides a unique opportunity for students to share the key findings from their independent research and creative experiences. The campus will be very impressed by the quality of the research and creative projects that have been completed by the presentations themselves.鈥
Students participating in SURF will present topics such as the following: Changes in empathy and self-compassion across the lifespan (Ailsa McBride, psychology), The effects of heat stress on the sociality of the mangrove rivulus, Kryptolebias marmoratus (Maddy Burnett, biology), Synchrotron and lab-based x-ray fluorescence analysis of lead and arsenic (Craig Groskopf, physics), and Legacy effects of DDT on invertebrate assemblages from north-central New Brunswick lakes (Paul MacKeigan, geography).
